Getting Started
AirMD+ is a DIY HVAC monitoring system that helps you track your heating and cooling system's performance. To get the most out of the app, you'll need an AirMD+ hardware device.
Hardware Requirements
The AirMD+ hardware device is required for full app functionality. You can:
- Purchase a pre-assembled device from our Etsy store
- Build your own using our open-source specifications
Device Setup
- Power on your AirMD+ device
- Wait for the blue LED to blink slowly (setup mode)
- Open iPhone Settings → WiFi
- Connect to the "AirMD-XXXX" network (no password required)
- Return to the AirMD+ app and follow the setup wizard
- Select your home WiFi network and enter the password
- The device will connect and start sending data
Resetting WiFi Credentials
If you need to connect your device to a different WiFi network:
- Hold the BOOT button on the device for 5 seconds
- The LED will flash rapidly to confirm reset
- The device will reboot into setup mode
- Follow the setup process again with your new WiFi
Sensor Placement
For accurate readings:
- Supply sensor: Place on a supply air vent (where conditioned air comes out)
- Return sensor: Place near or on the return air intake
- Ensure sensors are securely attached and not exposed to direct sunlight
Understanding Your Data
- Supply Air: Temperature of air coming from your HVAC system
- Return Air: Temperature of air going back into your system
- Delta T: Difference between return and supply (indicates system performance)
- Cooling: Typical delta T is 15-25°F
- Heating: Typical delta T is 40-70°F
Subscription Features
Free features include live temperature readings, basic system status, and device setup. Premium subscription adds:
- AI performance analysis and insights
- AI equipment scanner (snap photos of labels)
- Full historical data and charts
- Filter change reminders
- Performance alerts
Troubleshooting
Device not connecting?
- Ensure the LED is blinking slowly (setup mode)
- Try resetting WiFi credentials (hold BOOT button 5 seconds)
- Make sure you're connected to the AirMD network before proceeding
- Check that your home WiFi password is correct
No data showing?
- Verify the device is connected to your home WiFi (LED should be solid)
- Check that sensors are properly connected
- Allow 2-5 minutes for initial readings
Readings seem wrong?
- Ensure sensors are placed correctly (supply at vent, return at intake)
- Check that sensors aren't exposed to direct sunlight or other heat sources
- Verify your HVAC system is actually running
